Larry Geraty receives the Harris Award from Honors & Awards Chair, Laura Mazow.
At the 2019 17³Ô¹ÏAnnual Meeting in San Diego, Larry Geraty received the Charles U. Harris Service Award. This award is given in recognition of long term and/or special service as an 17³Ô¹Ïofficer or Trustee.
Lawrence (Larry) T. Geraty, President Emeritus, Director of the Foundation Board and Associate Director of the Center for Near Eastern Studies at La Sierra University, has been engaged with Near Eastern archaeology and with 17³Ô¹Ïand its affiliate schools for more than five decades. In this time, he has taken on leadership roles as 17³Ô¹ÏPresident from 2002 to 2006 and by serving on the 17³Ô¹ÏBoard through 2016 and acting as an Honorary Trustee since then. Larry has also served as ACOR trustee (1976-2002), Secretary-Treasurer (1983) and vice-president (1993). The creation of the newly endowed 17³Ô¹ÏLawrence T. Geraty Community Archaeology Endowment will heighten awareness of cultural heritage by engaging and facilitating partnerships with local communities in heritage protection and community archaeology. This new initiative will serve as a model for ways that archaeologists working in the Near East and Mediterranean region can partner with local communities to their mutual benefit. For Larry’s long-term affiliation, service and support for ACOR, 17³Ô¹Ïand AIAR, and his life-long accomplishments in archaeology, he is awarded the Charles U. Harris Service Award.
